Fire is an uncertain hazard. It occurs three times in ward no 1 named south Pahartoli regions. From the past history shanti colony is the main affected area which affects two times in 2010 and 1993.

Recently in 2013 another fire hazard is happened in 3 no bazar area. Short circuit is the main region for the fire hazard. Because of the fire hazard locality faces huge damage but no life losses in the past history.

In 1993, 25-30 families property has been vanished which property value is about 3 lacs and about 100 people suffer from that fire. In 2010, about 20 families and 80 people suffer from that fire hazard and the property is lost about 5 lacs. The recent hazard in 2013, one family affected and the loss is 50 thousand taka.

There are two gasoline stations in ward no 1. Both are located in Borodighir Par area. The characteristic of the surrounding area is commercial. The building density is not so high and all are pucca building surrounding the gasoline station. There is no accident happened in these gasoline station.

Due to the lack of enforcement of proper land use zoning regulations, the ward is an indiscriminate intermixing of residential, commercial and industrial uses.

My observation

The ward is characterized by an unplanned narrow road network which in many cases obstructs the entrance, movement and operation of fire service vehicles and ambulances during a fire or other emergency. There are no street fire hydrant arrangements or natural water sources such as ponds, canals, or rivers located within the ward. As a result, the fire fighters usually have to deal with the scarcity of water during the firefighting.
