Bangladesh is a disaster prone country. The citizens of Bangladesh have to wrestle various calamities such as hurricanes, earthquakes and drought, just to name a few.

However, statistics suggest, fire disasters stand as a cause of many lives that are being lost every year in Bangladesh. Although, this issue might not be solved completely, effective precautions and preventions can definitely cut down on the risk that it bears. So, we chose to focus on fire disaster and generate solutions and preventions regarding this calamity which we think might be constructive.

There are a number of places that suffer from the blatant effects of fire disasters in Bangladesh. Out of them, the two organizations that are affected are schools and faith-based organizations such as mosques, temples and monasteries. There are several causes that lie behind the fire disasters taking place all over our country.

Fire disasters can be both manmade and natural. It can take place from one’s negligence or it can happen without someone’s knowledge which can also be called accidental.

According to a well-reputed newspaper of Bangladesh called the Daily Star, during the political unrest in 2012, “More than 20 Buddhist temples and monasteries and at least one Hindu temple, along with scores of homes and shops, were set on fire during attacks in southern cities of Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong over the weekend” (Bangladesh: Minority communities, 1). This incident resulted to hundreds of innocent casualties in that specific area. If there were certain safety measures taken by the victims to tackle the disaster, the number of death could have probably been reduced.

All associations should assure that they educate all the people present in the institution about how to deal with fire. Various safety precautions can be adopted in order to bring a fire disaster under control.

There are no rigid documents on the safety precautions of fire or burn disasters in Bangladesh (Mashreky, 1). For example, everyone should be able to utilize the fire extinguishers, blankets and the way to the emergency exit. There should be fire alarms set up each organization. It is important to make sure that all the necessary equipments to deal with the fire are monitored closely and regularly.

All the educational institutions should hold seminars and workshops to help the students acknowledge about the accidents that can occur from fire.

Educated people, mostly youths can engage themselves into community services and enlighten people at the poor and under developed areas about the preventions and the applications of the solutions.

Schools and faith based organizations can conduct fire drills to depict the ways to bring the fire under control. There can be different banners posted everywhere in the organizations stating all the possible ways to deal with fire catastrophes. Students, teachers and the people involved with the faith-based organizations should be more careful while using electronic devices as it might lead to dangerous accidents.

Although we are concentrated on how schools and faith-based organizations deal with fire catastrophes, but the main goal of this project is to spread awareness among people all over Bangladesh.

Every year, Bangladesh is severely affected by the disasters caused by fire.

We, the aware people of this country, can bring a massive change by educating ourselves and others. If the specified solutions are applied and the precautions are in proper use, it is possible to bring down the numbers of lives being lost.
