Disaster can strike at anytime anywhere.

In general, the general response to a disaster is in terms of relief and rescue operations after the event. However, if we are adequately prepared, its possible to severely reduce the impact of a disaster.

The impact can be reduced through a good understanding of preventive actions, as well as having the knowledge of certain life saving tools and techniques.

The biggest problem with the disasters is the suddenness and swiftness with which they arrive. Hence in order to reduce the severity of a disaster the response also has to equally swift.

On 2014 a water hackathon administered by the World Bank took place on Dhaka Bangladesh which is mainly focussed on developing mobile apps as now a days a mobile device is found at everyones hand.

A group of participant have invented an app called Shelter. The app has many functionality on reducing the impact of disaster.

First of all, that app has an feature called Find Shelter what help people to find the nearest shelter using google maps. Secondly, there is an option called Addresses of Shelters what have given a list of all available shelter nearby. That apps has also a feature called notification what will inform you about the weather and notify you again and again if there is any disaster upcoming towards your location. Lastly there is a option called Helping Message if you are in a trouble or accidently stucked in a disaster then you just have to select the option and a sos message will be sent to rescue team and they will atmost try to help you to get out from the problem.

The government should have to come up to help to make it happened. First of all, this apps should have to make free for use like the sms charge or the data cost what is needed for that application to access the database.

Also, the government can launch a 3 digit national helpline number for natural calamities. It will be a 3-digit country-wide helpline number which any person affected by a natural disaster can call for help and rescue. All agencies like the armed forces, disaster management forces and state police will get details from such distress calls and can plan quick rescue action accordingly.

Also the government should have to setup a robust telecommunication system that would withstand natural disasters by a greater degree or the existing system can be further improved based on high-frequency wireless systems to communicate in a disaster as mobile signals blinked out on that time.

The information and communication technology is too advanced now a days. This is high time we have to use the technology properly to save human life and reduce the losses. If we can do so, the world would have been a better place to live.
