Comprehensive Disaster Management Planning (CDMP2) for Landslide Risk Management in Bangladesh
Date: 12 Jan 2011 - 15 Mar 2012
Department:
Donor Agency: CDMP
Location: Bangladesh
Description
Comprehensive disaster management planning (CDMP ?II) for landslide risk management project was carried the basis for ?Rainfall triggered landslide hazard zonation in Cox?s bazaar and Teknaf municipalities in Bangladesh?. The main objective of the project was to model the slopes in Cox?s bazaar and Teknaf municipal area susceptible or potential to failure. Additionally, the project aims to introduce community-based early warning system as a pilot basis in the selected areas. The identification of slopes susceptibility or potential zones is useful for identifying slope failure and community based early warning is useful for inhabitants to be careful and safety about the danger of the place for managing landslide hazard in Bangladesh.
Key Activities
-Prepare inception report
-Develop landslide inventory map
-Prepare topographic and existing land use map
-Prepare Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and slope map
-Prepare engineering geological map
-Precipitation threshold limit
-Prepare potential landslide hazard zonation
Output
-Establishment of early warning mechanisms within the identified high risk areas
-Awareness programs and training material developed
-Developed hazard zonation maps and reports
-Developed a report on landslide risk reduction strategy
