Description

The two-year project ?Strengthening Disaster Risk Reduction Capacity in Selected ASEAN Countries? began in September 2013, implemented by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) supported through the New Zealand Aid Programme. The multi-country project aims to increase the resilience of the selected ASEAN countries through strengthened DRR systems and decision-support tools at national and sub-national levels. To achieve this goal two areas are focused upon: 1) improving the use of risk information (Lao PDR and Myanmar); and 2) enhancing preparedness for the recovery phase of disasters (Myanmar, the Philippines, and Vietnam).

Key Activities

Outcome 1 activities: Activity 1: Geographic Information System (GIS) databases of hazard, vulnerability and risk developed and available online. Activity 2: Risk information sharing protocols developed including preparation of risk assessment methodology, data content, scale and resolution benchmarks Activity 3: Local level application of Disaster Risk and CC information in EWS enhancement for better preparedness to extreme Hydro-met events Outcome 2 activities: Activity 1: Institutional systems and capacity to integrate DRR into recovery and reconstructions strengthened Activity 2: Recovery Tool kit comprising manual, guidelines and standard operating procedures developed. Activity 3:Development of early recovery transitional action plan developed for reconstruction planning.

Output

The overall project outcomes are intended as follows: Outcome 1: The process of multi-hazard risk assessments and sharing risk information for making informed development planning and management decisions, at sub-national and local levels.
