Department:

Donor Agency: World Food Programme (WFP) Pakistan

Location: Pakistan

Description

The objective of the project "Multi-hazard Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (MHVRA)" as defined in the TOR is to provide a dynamic planning tool for the DRM officials at provincial and district levels for improved and informed DRR, preparedness, and contingency planning.

Specifically, major objectives of the project however can be explained as follows: - To evaluate existing studies on hazard, vulnerability, and risk assessments in the country.
- To map out all hazard prone areas of Sindh province and the other selected 5 districts (Thatta, Badin, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allah Yar, and Mirpur Khas), covering geological, hydro-meteorological hazards, and other types of hazard specified.
- To build and enhance the capacity of local technical agencies in carrying out hazard, vulnerability, and risk assessment as well as DRM officials in using the MHVRA.
- To study existing DRR mechanism and capacity of the country.
- To integrate the hazard profile information derived from this work in a Web Portal for effective dissemination.

It is expected that the proposed study will provide most useful information which will serve as a strong foundation toward proper DRR intervention initiatives at a later stage, allowing decision makers to prioritize risk mitigation investments and measures to strengthen the emergency preparedness and response mechanisms to hydro-meteorological, geological hazards, and other types of hazards as identified.

Key Activities

?1. Collection of hydrological, meteorological, geological, and other data related to hazard assessment.

6. Quantification of the elements exposed to all types of hazard.
7.Collection of vulnerability-related data.
8. Calculation of the composite risk indices and mapping.
9. Compilation of the baseline data as well as results produced from the project and Development of the geo-database.
10. Development of the Web Portal.
