A short internal working paper convering the following issues: 1. A presentation of the recent flooding (facts, figures, statistics) and the impacts especially on the economy. 2. Present the underlying reasons for the recent flooding, the risks that the private sector / SMEs face as a result of extreme weather/ climate change (e.g. flooding) When presenting the risk, the focus should clearly be on the vulnerability of the SMEs. 3. A brief review how the private sector, in particular SMEs are integrated into national strategies for climate change adaption measures (e.g. screening existing policies or strategies (a) setting incentives for climate change adaption measure for SMEs and (b) disaster risk reduction taking into consideration the private sector, in particular SMEs) 4. Recording existing know-how and institutions (governmental, NGO, private sector) with regard to DRR. 5. Present recommendations for actions to be taken deemed necessary for the prevention of similar disasters caused by floods (e.g. water management, spatial planning, capacity building, PPP). Identify stakeholders for the implementation of preventive measures. 6. Analysing potential challenges and obstacles to implementing adaptive measures for disaster preparedness with a specific focus on SMEs.
