Earthquake in Nepal: ADPC extends its support to the government

Bangkok, Thailand

Asian Disaster Preparedness Center’s (ADPC) thoughts and sympathies are with the people of Nepal after the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the country on Saturday 25 April, leaving more than three thousand people dead and thousands more injured, while severely damaging the country’s critical infrastructure.

The event is a sad reminder of the disaster risk faced by the communities in Asia, and underlines the importance of the tireless efforts by the development community to build countries’ resilience to natural hazards through disaster risk reduction.

ADPC is a long-standing partner of the Government of Nepal providing the country with support in strengthening its capacity in disaster risk management. ADPC is now extending its technical support to the government in the response to and recovery from the earthquake over the next months and years.
