Learning Workshop on Mainstreaming Disaster and Climate Risk Management (DRM/CRM) into Development Process, Gujarat was held from 1-5 July, 2013 at Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management (GIDM) in Gujarat State.

Jointly organized by Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), GIDM, as the research and training wing of GSDMA, and ADPC, the learning workshop aimed at enhancing understanding and expanding horizon of the participants on the comparative advantage of Mainstreaming DRM/CRM and extensively explored on ‘how to’ do it. Examples, Field visit, case studies and challenges on applying mainstreaming DRM/CRM from the region and various countries added richness to the subject and created fruitful discussion.

40- Participants of the course, nominated by line departments, are those involved in planning and development projects/programmes implementations from various development sectors including energy sector, rural development, health sector, and structural and public works, among others.

Gujarat is one of the most advanced states in the country in term of industrialization, urbanization, public facilities and infrastructure development, real estate investment and high economic vibrancy and value. Development interventions led by the state governments, municipality bodies and other relevant government agencies are underway. Disaster and climate risk considerations inclusive throughout the planning process would be a must for the authorities to make informed decision in guiding and shaping safer and resilient development. In such a high time for state development, the learning workshop has not only resulted in sensitizing mainstreaming DRM/CRM for concerned operational officials, but also has provided unique opportunity to touch base on approach, tools and application of mainstreaming DRM/CRM across different development arenas.
