Myanmar Climate Data Portal launches by Hon. Deputy Minister of Transport H.E U Han Sein

Myanmar Climate Data Portal was launched by Hon. Deputy Minister of Transport H.E U Han Sein on 25 November in Nay Pyi Taw. Organized jointly by Department of Meteorology and Hydrology and (DMH) and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), the launching workshop demonstrated and provided hands-on training to utilize the web portal for accessing observed meteorological data and future climate scenarios developed for the country.

ADPC supports Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) in a project to enhance human resources and institutional capacity to deal with the threats from natural disasters. Technical support for the project is provided by Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), Norwegian Water and Energy Directorate (NVE), Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI), University of Bergen (UiB) of Norway and ADPC. The financial support has been provided by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.



In his inauguration speech, H.E. U Han Sein appreciated the continued support of ADPC for the Government of Myanmar in building its institutional capacity.

“I believe that the Myanmar Climate Data Portal will be a new and convenient means for users to access the information easily from online applications and also helpful for climate data users from various sectors to analyze, interpret and better understand the changing climate of Myanmar,” H.E. U Has Sein said.

The workshop was participated by sector-specific stakeholders representing agriculture, forestry, water resource management, environment, power and energy, disaster management, information and communication as well as by the officials of Department of Meteorology and Hydrology. The technical session was chaired by Ms. Khin Cho Cho Shein, Director of Department of Meteorology.
