The Asian Development Bank (ADB) supports the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan (GoRT) for a long term and sustainable solution to effectively reduce the expected increase in severity and frequency of disaster impacts associated with natural hazards in Tajikistan.

The project will enhance the institutional capacity of ministries and line agencies to cope with natural hazards, such as earthquakes, landslides, mudflows, avalanches, floods, and droughts, to minimize the loss to human, property, and social and economic infrastructure.

The project will carry out multi-hazard vulnerability and risk assessment across the country; prepare hazard maps; identify areas of high risk (i.e., risk hotspots); develop national, sub-national, and sector-wise disaster risk management (DRM) plans; strengthen the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence (CESCD) and other ministries and agencies through the provision of capacity building measures, training, and equipment.

The project's outcome and impact align with ADB's country assistance strategy for Tajikistan and the government's development strategy and its strategic objectives.

The project impact will be Tajikistan's enhanced resilience to disasters and climate change, and the outcome, the reduced socio-economic vulnerability of Tajikistan to natural hazards.
