Contributing to Strengthening Nature-based Solutions for ASEAN’s Climate Resilience

Jakarta, Indonesia, 2-3 February 2026 - The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) participated in the Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) Portfolio Launch and Inception Workshop hosted by the ASEAN-UK Green Transition Fund (GTF) in Jakarta, contributing to discussions on advancing regionally coordinated climate action.

The event formally introduced the ASEAN-UK GTF Nature-based Solutions Portfolio, highlighting the UK’s strategic support for ASEAN climate priorities. The workshop provided a platform to demonstrate the portfolio’s relevance and potential impact across ASEAN, strengthen political and technical engagement, and explore collaboration opportunities with ongoing ASEAN-UK GTF initiatives.

As part of the NbS Portfolio, ADPC is contributing to the ASEAN-NbS Tool. This initiative is a collaborative effort aimed at catalyzing regional action to plan, monitor, and scale nature-based interventions. ADPC works alongside implementing partners, including World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia, the SCeNe Coalition, the Spatial Informatics Group-Natural Assets Laboratory (SIG-NAL), and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to bridge the gap between technical data and climate resilience.

This project aims to systematically close the gap between the potential of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and its large-scale implementation across ASEAN. It does this by strengthening inclusive, biodiversity-positive, and climate-resilient NbS through two core SCeNe Coalition workstreams: the NbS Tool and the NbS Incubator, both in line with the ASEAN-UK GTF’s emphasis on science-based, inclusive, and regionally coordinated climate actions.

Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are a key priority within ADPC’s Priority Areas of Action. ADPC remains committed to supporting communities across the region with sustainable, ecosystem-based approaches to reduce disaster risks, adapt to climate change, and build long-term resilience, while contributing to global goals for a more sustainable and equitable future. Following the launch, on 4 February 2026, ADPC will further advance this work by contributing to the NbS Research and Development (R&D) Financing Co-design Workshop in Indonesia, convening regional and international stakeholders to strengthen early-stage financing mechanisms for NbS across the ASEAN region.
