Bangkok, Thailand, 26 January 2026 - The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) convened the 4th Technical Working Group (TWG) Meeting of the Urban Resilience Thailand (URBAN) Project in Bangkok, bringing together government representatives and technical experts to review progress and steer the next phase of project implementation.

The URBAN Project is supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and jointly implemented by ADPC, in collaboration with IUCN, RECOFTC, the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI), and the Urban Design and Development Center (UddC), in political partnership with Thailand’s Department of Water Resources.

The meeting aimed to assess ADPC’s progress under the project, share technical insights, and collectively guide upcoming activities, ensuring that project implementation remains aligned with national climate resilience priorities while contributing to sustainable urban development and environmental protection. ADPC also presented key updates on the Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA), providing an evidence base to inform resilient urban planning and decision-making.

In his opening speech, Dr. Senaka Basnayake, Program Lead – Climate Services at ADPC, highlighted that the CRVA undertaken through the project would be instrumental in pinpointing climate risk hotspots and informing the adoption of suitable Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to minimize future climate and disaster risks in the Chiang Rai and Surat Thani areas of Thailand.

Climate Change projections development:

Implemented from 2024 to 2028 in Chiang Rai and Surat Thani provinces, the Urban Resilience Thailand Project seeks to enhance the resilience of urban areas and surrounding ecosystems to climate-related risks by integrating nature-based solutions (NbS) into urban systems and governance.

Through the URBAN Project, ADPC is advancing nature-based solutions as a core approach to disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation, supporting cities and communities across Asia with ecosystem-based strategies that reduce risks, strengthen resilience, and deliver long-term social, environmental, and economic benefits in line with global sustainability goals.
