ADPC attends the observance of International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) and ASEAN Day for Disaster Management in Ha Long, Viet Nam

ADPC attends the observance of International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) and ASEAN Day for Disaster Management at Bai Chay Secondary School in Ha Long, Viet Nam. This event was organized by the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (ADDMA) of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on 13 October 2023 in collaboration with the Australian Embassy in Hanoi. This was attended by the ministers and senior officials of Disaster Management organizations in the ASEAN region, ASEAN Secretariat and international organizations

In parallel to the IDDRR event, ADPC conducted National Knowledge Exchange Forum on “From response to Anticipatory Action: Addressing inequality for resilient urban communities” on 13 October 2023 at Muong Thanh Luxury hotel in Ha Long, Viet Nam with the participation of 63 provincial government officials and My Tho and Nam Dinh People’s City Committee officials. As part of the forum, a moderated panel discussion was held with the panelists from My Tho and Nam Dinh cities, Vietnam Red Cross, UNICEF and Vietnam Academy of Water Resources (VAWR). This Knowledge Exchange Forum is organized under the “Urban Resilience to Climate Extremes in Southeast Asia (URCE) program”, which is implemented in My Tho (Tien Giang province) and Nam Dinh (Nam Dinh Province) cities in Vietnam in collaboration with VDDMA and with the financial assistance from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).

This national forum is in line with Viet Nam’s ACDM Chairmanship theme “From response to anticipatory action and resilience: ASEAN’s journey towards global leadership in disaster management” and the theme of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction: “Fighting inequality for a resilient future”.

The main objective of this forum is to raise the awareness of different stakeholders in the field of urban resilience on the different strategies and plans, which the cities can adopt to minimize the inequalities and to achieve urban resilience.
