Digital Solutions for Disaster Data and Innovation Face-to-Face Training Course
Date: 15 - 19 Jun 2026
Venue: Bangkok, Thailand
Background and Rationale
The increasing frequency andcomplexity of disasters across Asia and the Pacific require governments andinstitutions to adopt innovative and data-driven approaches for disaster riskmanagement (DRM). Rapid advancements in digital technologies, includinggeospatial systems, artificial intelligence (AI), remote sensing, cloudcomputing, big data analytics, mobile applications, and digital platforms, aretransforming how disaster data is collected, analyzed, visualized, and utilizedfor decision-making.
Digital transformation in DRMhas become essential for improving risk assessment, preparedness, early warningsystems, emergency response, damage and loss assessment, and recovery planning.Governments and organizations are increasingly investing in interoperable datasystems, digital mapping tools, dashboards, and innovation ecosystems tosupport evidence-based disaster resilience strategies.
Recognizing this growing need,ADPC is organizing the “Digital Solutions for Disaster Data and Innovation”Face-to-Face Training Course to strengthen the capacities of practitioners, government officials, researchers, and technical professionals in leveragingdigital technologies and innovation for disaster risk reduction and climateresilience.
Course Objectives
The training aims to strengthen participants’ knowledge and technical capacity to utilize digital technologies, data systems, and innovative approaches for effective disaster risk management and climate resilience. Specifically, the course will:
• Enhance understanding of digital transformation in DRM and climate resilience
• Introduce disaster data ecosystems, governance, interoperability, and standards
• Build practical skills in geospatial technologies, remote sensing, and data visualization tools
• Explore emerging technologies including AI, big data analytics, mobile platforms, and digital innovation for DRM
• Strengthen capacities in risk communication, early warning systems, and decision-support platforms
• Promote innovation, collaboration, and digital solutions for resilient development planning.
Course Contents
The training is structured as a five-day face-to-face program combining technical lectures, group work, and case studies. The course follows a progressive learning approach beginning with foundational concepts of disaster data systems and digital transformation, followed by hands-on applications of geospatial and digital tools, and concluding with innovation frameworks, integrated systems, and action planning for implementation.
The program emphasizes practical learning and peer exchange through regional case studies, interactive discussions and collaborative exercises.

Course Methodologies
This course emphasizes a "Tech-First" approach, blending high-level theory with heavy practical application:
• Software Sandboxes: Participants will work within pre-configured cloud environments to practice with GIS and AI tools without installation hurdles.
• Live Simulation Exercises: A "Hackathon-style" simulation where participants must process incoming digital data streams to advise "decision-makers" during a mock disaster.
• Expert Tech-Talks: Guest sessions from leading tech firms and humanitarian innovation labs.
• Laboratory-Style Learning: Step-by-step tutorials on data cleaning, coding, and dashboard building.
• Clinics & Consultations: One-on-one time with instructors to troubleshoot specific data challenges from the participants' home organizations.
• Portfolio Development: Each participant will leave with a functional digital prototype ready for implementation.
Target Participants
The training is designed for:
• Government officials from DRM, climate, planning, and technical agencies
• GIS and remote sensing professionals
• Disaster management practitioners
• Urban planners and infrastructure specialists
• Researchers and academics
• Development partners and NGOs
• Technology and innovation professionals working in resilience sectors
