• Flood Emergency Management Strengthening (FEMS) project activities, Vietnam (11- 30 May)

  •        ADPC’s Disaster Management Systems team focuses on strengthening institutional capacities for disaster risk management of countries of the region. DMS team undertakes activities in the following key areas:
    1. Strengthening and Building Capacities of National,Provincial and DistrictGoverments.
    2. Promoting regional cooperation and supporting the work of regional and sub-regional cooperation mechanisms in disaster management;
    3. Mainstreaming disaster risk management into development policy, planning and implementation in Asia; and
    4. Supporting the development of systems’ tools and techniques, research and documentation of practices for disaster risk management.

    The team is currently implementing the following Projects/Studies:

    Capacity Building at National, Provincial and District levels

    1. Capacity Building for Planning and Implementation of Flood Preparedness Programs at Provincial and District levels in the Lower Mekong Basin (Phase II) – in the 4 Mekong countries of Cambodia, Vietnam, Lao PDR and Thailand March 2005-April 2006, funded under the Fourth DiPECHO Action Plan for South East Asia

    2. ADB Community Self Reliance and Flood Risk Reduction in Cambodia

       9. Coastal Risk Analysis of Tsunamis and Environmental          Remediation, pilot implementation for selected sites in        Phuket and Phang Nga provinces of Thailand May 2005 –        March 2006, funded by Italian Ministry for Environment and        Territory (IMET)

       10. Study on Community based Disaster Risk Management        (CBDRM) Needs Assessment, targeted at the Tsunami        affected provinces in Thailand August-October 2005, for the        World Vision
