Training Workshop

The Second Sub-regional
Exercise Management Training Workshop is
being organized by the Ministry of
Public Health, Thailand, Ministry of
Health Cambodia and Asian Disaster
Preparedness Center with the support
from the ASEAN+3 Emerging Infectious
Disease Programme (EID) and the
Australian Government Overseas Aid
Programme (AusAID)
Overview
and Purpose of the Training Programme
Exercises have taken place in ASEAN
Plus Three countries at national,
sub national, community, cross border
and regional level to develop and
test plans in response to communicable
disease emergencies including avian
influenza in poultry and humans, and the
threat of pandemic influenza. In the
ASEAN+3 countries, there is limited
experience in developing, conducting and
evaluating effective exercises among
human and animal health sectors, and
limited guidance or training available
to those responsible in exercise
management thus the need to develop such
capacity to contribute to the
preparedness of ASEAN+3 countries to
face such risks.
The Exercise
Management Training Programme is a
project initiated by the Ministry of
Public Health, Thailand and the Asian
Disaster Preparedness Center, in
collaboration with the Ministries of
Health and Ministries of
Agriculture in ASEAN+3 countries.
The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center,
based in Thailand, has been identified
as an implementing partner to
organize and conduct this program,
given their experience in conducting
health emergency management capacity
building activities, including exercise
management training.
Objective
The primary objective of the training
programme is to build the capacity of
the people responsible for exercise
management for preparedness, prevention
and control of emerging infectious
diseases in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar,
Thailand and Vietnam.

participants, the workshop and
accommodation will be at the
Phnom Penh Hotel
in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Travel to and from
the International Airport
takes about 15 minutes by taxi depending
on the traffic. Please refer to the

ARRIVAL DAY
Workshop participants are encouraged to
arrive on Sunday, 14 December 2008.
Please come to the lobby of the
hotel to check-in.
TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM
THE AIRPORT
As airport pick up/drop will not be
arranged by the programme, please
take note of this recommendation on how
to get to the venue. To travel from
airport to the hotel, participants can
hire a public taxi from the counter
located outside the arrival terminal.
The hotel is about 15 minutes drive from
the International Airport, depending on
the traffic. The taxi-fare is
approximately USD 10 in the afternoon
and USD 12 in the night time.

WORKSHOP REGISTRATION and
IDENTIFICATION
Registration will be from 8:30 am –
9:00 am on Monday, 15 December
2008. Please provide a photocopy of
your passport (only the page with
personal details and photo) and business
card if available.
Note to Programme-sponsored
participants:
Daily Subsistence
Allowance
will be provided to cover the
costs of the
following: accommodation and
daily
subsistence allowance for the whole
duration of the
Workshop (5 days)
and reimbursements
(i.e. economy class air tickets
traveling to Phnom Penh) will be
done by the bank
transfer after the workshop.
For
reimbursements, original receipts
are required.
Please settle the hotel
bill directly with the hotel upon check
out.
WORKSHOP OPENING and
CLOSING DAYS
The Workshop will be opened
at 9:00 am on Monday, 15
December 2008 where representatives
of Royal Thai Government, Ministry of
Health Cambodia, Exercise Management
Workshop Project Partner and invited
guests will welcome participants to the
workshop. A group photo will be taken
after the opening, if you wish you can
wear your national dress or formal
attire for this purpose or otherwise
please dress appropriately for this
event.
The closing ceremony will
take place on Friday, 19 December
2008. Invited guests will come to
grace this event.
TRAINING HOURS
Training will begin at approximately
8:30am and conclude at 5:00pm each day.
All participants are requested to be
on time.
All mobile phones will be remained “off”
during classroom sessions.
REQUIRED
MATERIALS
Participants are required
to bring their country reference
materials eg.
National policy,
guidelines, or plans related to
communicable disease emergencies or any
documentation on previous exercises
conducted in the country.
DEPARTURE DAY (Friday, 19
December 2008)
International participants should plan
their departures for the evening of
Friday, 19 December 2008. The
hotel’s check-out time is at 12:00
noon. If participants are unable to
depart on Friday, 19 December 2008 or
wish to arrange additional accommodation
after Friday night please contact MOH
Cambodia officials.
COMPUTERS/INTERNET/FAX/TELEPHONE/POST
The hotel has a business center where
the participants can call or send
documents by fax. Internet access is
also available in the hotel. Telephones
will be available in each room for local
or international calls. Please check the
rates with hotel staff. Participants
can also post any mail at the hotel’s
Business Center.
INSURANCE
Workshop participants are responsible
for their own insurance coverage during
the workshop (e.g. medical/health,
emergency/accident, travel, life
insurance). Please ensure you have a
clear understanding of your own
insurance policies prior to departing
from your home country.
VALUABLES
All valuables brought to the workshop
are the responsibility of the
participant. Please follow hotel
recommendations in ensuring the security
of your valuables.
