Second Sub-regional Exercise Management
Training Workshop

15-19 December 2008
Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The Second Sub-regional Exercise Management Training Workshop is being organized by the Ministry of Public Health, Thailand, Ministry of Health Cambodia and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center with the support from the ASEAN+3 Emerging Infectious Disease Programme (EID)  and the Australian Government Overseas Aid Programme (AusAID)

Overview and Purpose of the Training Programme
Exercises  have  taken  place  in  ASEAN Plus Three  countries  at  national, sub  national, community, cross border and  regional  level to develop and test  plans in response to communicable disease emergencies including avian influenza in poultry and humans, and the threat of pandemic influenza. In the ASEAN+3 countries, there is limited experience in developing, conducting and evaluating effective exercises among human and animal health sectors, and limited guidance or training available to those responsible in exercise management thus the need to develop such capacity to contribute to the preparedness of ASEAN+3 countries to face such risks.

The  Exercise  Management  Training  Programme  is  a  project  initiated  by the  Ministry of  Public Health, Thailand and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, in collaboration with the  Ministries  of  Health  and   Ministries  of  Agriculture  in  ASEAN+3 countries.  The  Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, based in Thailand, has been identified as an  implementing  partner to  organize  and  conduct  this  program,  given  their  experience in  conducting  health  emergency management capacity building activities, including exercise management training.

Objective
The primary objective of the training programme is to build the capacity of the people responsible for exercise management for preparedness, prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
