ADPC's
Training Services Unit (TSU)
aims to help in strengthening the capacity of
countries, organizations, communities and
individuals to reduce the impact of disasters
by enhancing understanding, perceptions,
awareness, learning good practices, global
needs and challenges to
promote and adopt disaster risk reduction practices
as an integral part of the development process
at community, national, sub-regional and
regional levels.
It provides a range of
learning opportunities to disaster practitioners
at all levels, who
wish to include knowledge of disaster management
in their on-going professional development.
Regular courses are conducted in Bangkok and
in-country on a range of topics, such as the
fundamentals of disaster management, urban
disaster mitigation, seismic and cyclones
hazards mitigation, flood hazard mitigation,
technological hazards mitigation, crisis
management, complex emergencies management, and
community-based approaches to disaster
management. Over the past 20 years, ADPC's
alumni base has expanded to more than 4500
professionals working at senior and middle
management levels in national and provincial
governments, NGOs, International NGOs, the
academic and the private sector. With the
diverse professional backgrounds and the
institutional relationships that the ADPC Alumni
represent, they constitute an excellent network of
qualified and dedicated individuals working
towards the formulation of effective disaster
management policies and demonstrated
capabilities in their countries. The services of ADPC's Training Resource Group include, training
needs assessment, design training curriculum,
conduct training courses, evaluation and
organizing study tours to meet the special needs
of different audiences.
ADPC's training
courses can be classified into three categories:
Regional Courses:
ADPC conducts
its regional flagship courses, such as the
Disaster Management Systems, Community-based
Disaster Risk Management etc. Meetings
today's needs and challenges, ADPC has also
developed courses on several emerging,
topical areas, such as the Climate Risk
Management, Early Warning Systems etc. These
courses are conducted annually in Bangkok to
facilitate understanding on concepts,
principles of disaster management, to improve the
knowledge and skills of disaster practitioners
for effective applications in light of
regional disaster risk reduction needs.
Program-based Courses:
ADPC
develops and institutionalize courses under
different programs at national level with the collaboration of
national level training organizations on
specific aspects of disaster management.
Tailor-made Courses:
ADPC is actively
engaged in bespoke in-countries training
courses. These courses are developed and
conducted on
request from governments, international, UN, NGOs and private sector.
