| A delegation from Shanghai Municipal Civil Defense Office, Shanghai, P. R. China visited ADPC from 6 – 10 November 2005 Mr. Liu Nanshan, the Director-General of Shanghai Municipal Civil Defense Office (SCDO) led a delegation of seven senior and middle level officials from 6-10 November to ADPC. The SCDO is the key government agency responsible for disaster management in Shanghai and ADPC has maintained a very good relationship with SCDO. Among their various other scheduled programmes, the delegates were invited to the opening ceremony of the 32nd Disaster Management Course (DMC-32) on the 7th November, where they were warmly welcomed by Dr. Suvit Yodmani, Executive Director of ADPC. The objective of this visit provided a chance for the senior officials of ADPC and SCDO to meet and initiate a dialogue to establish a training center on disaster management in Shanghai, as well as the development of a capacity building program on disaster management between ADPC and SCDO. Both the organizations have agreed to take proactive action to establish the collaboration. The delegates visited the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) of Thailand’s Ministry of Interior and had discussion with the Director-General of DDPM and his colleagues. They also visited one of the DDPM’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Academies, which is located in Pathum Thani Province. In addition, the delegation met officials from the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA). The delegates were very pleased with the outcomes of their visit to Bangkok.
