Report – The 5th LACDE Shanghai International Conference

The 5th LACDE International Conference was held in Shanghai, China between 15 – 17 October 2002. The conference was sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and organized by the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and the Shanghai Municipal Civil Defense Office. Two hundred and fifty delegates from 34 countries participated in the conference. ADPC’s delegation consists of Ms.Zen Delica Willison, Director of Training and Education and Ms. Lingling Jiang, Program Coordinator of Technical Services. There were 23 presentations on various topics including Zen whose presentation is entitled Community – Based Disaster Management Towards Safer Communities. Zen’s presentation impressed participants.

ADPC’s delegation met several Chinese agencies/organizations in Shanghai before and after the conference to explore the possibility of collaboration on Disaster Risk Management. They also took this opportunity to introduce ADPC and its training activities.
