This website details the Alabama Flood Mitigation Program, a FEMA funded program.

ALERT Systems Organization
A community dedicated to reducing injuries, deaths, and property damage caused by floods. The site provides updates on events and activities of Alert and other useful links.

ANFAS: Data Fusion for Flood Analysis and Decision Support
ANFAS is a three-years research project (January 2000 - December 2002), co-financed by the European Union (IST Programme), and the Chinese government, supported by the French Embassy in Bejing.

Association of Floodplain Managers
The Association of State Floodplain Managers is an organization of professionals involved in floodplain management, flood hazard mitigation, the National Flood Insurance Program, and flood preparedness, warning and recovery. British Hydrological Society
The British Hydrological Societies activities cater to organizations interested in the inter-disciplinary subject of hydrology, and aims to promote interest and scholarship in scientific and applied aspects of hydrology and to foster the involvement of its members in national and international level. The site provides information on the BHS activities, publications, programs, events, discussion groups, education and training, links and a chronology of British hydrology events.

Bureau of Waterways Engineering
The Bureau of Waterways Engineering plans, designs and inspects DEP dams, flood protection and stream improvement projects; coordinates planning, design and construction of Federal flood control and bank stabilization projects. The site provides information on dam safety, flood protection, stream improvement, fact-sheets etc.

Central Water Commission
The Central Water Commission is attached to the Indian Ministry of Water Resources. The Commission is responsible for initiating, coordinating and furthering consultation of the State Governments concerned, schemes for control, conservation and utilization of water resources throughout the country, for purpose of Flood Control, Irrigation, Navigation, Drinking Water Supply and Water Power Development.

This Web site is a research tool for detection, mapping, measurement, and analysis of extreme flood events worldwide using satellite remote sensing. It provides yearly catalogs of large river floods, and is developing methods for obtaining globally consistent measurements of such events.

Earth Satellite Cooperation: Flood Threat
This site hosted by the Earth Satellite Cooperation consists of a color map indicating by county how much rain is required over any 3-hour period within the next 24 hours to cause flooding. This monitoring facility is only for USA. It also has links to floodplain management and watershed modeling

FloodRisk page is hosted on the Earth Satellite Cooperation page and consists of a color map indicating by county 5 categories of forecasted flood danger over the next 24
hours.

Environment Canada's Freshwater web site is designed to show the importance and extent of fresh water in Canada.
Topics include: the nature of water, water management, policy and legislation, and water and culture. A section of the site is dedicated specifically to the Flood Damage Reduction
Program.

This site hosted by the Monitoba Emergency Management Organization provides a list of do during and after the flood, such as storing water, evacuation, flood warnings etc.

Federal Emergency Management Agency
FEMA's Mitigation page gives a comprehensive coverage on mitigation of flood, flood hazard mapping. It also provides a how to series on flood and disaster background information.

Federal Office for Water and Geology, FOWG (Switzerland)
The FOWG is the Confederation's center regarding water use, water management, hydrology, geology, and natural hazards of flooding, earthquakes, and distribution of earth masses.

Flood Hazard Mapping
This site from FEMA provides a number of resources on flood such as, flood mapping, insurance, guides, documents, software, insurance rates etc.

Flood Hazard Research Centre
The research centre specializes in the interaction between the people and the environment, together with the analysis and the appraisal of environmental policies. A large part of the research refers to management of the water environment. Some of the areas of research are "Flood Warning and Flood Hazards", "Emergency Planning & Response", "Public Perception of Rivers and River Restoration" etc.

Flood Hazard Research Centre: University of Middlesex, is an interdisciplinary research centre and has published a number of research work. Besides research the centre also runs specialist training courses in flood alleviation and coastal zone management field. The site provides links research work, publications and links to organizations.

The FRIEND (Flow Regimes from International Experimental and Network Data) research programme is an international study in regional hydrology. Its aim is to develop a better understanding of hydrological variability and similarity across different regions through the mutual exchange of data, knowledge and flood design methods.

Global Hydrology Resource Center
The Global Hydrology Resource Center (GHRC) provides both historical and current Earth science data, information, and products from satellite, airborne, and surface-based instruments. The GHRC is supported by NASA and is the data management and user services arm of the Global Hydrology & Climate Center (GHCC) in Huntsville, Alabama. The site provides latest datasets, and data description, hydrology news, glossary of terms etc. The data can be searched and ordered too from this site.

Hydormet
The Development of On-Line Hydrological and Meteorological Models to Minimise the Impact of Flooding. This site hosted by the Water & Environmental Management Research Centre at the University of Bristol, gives an overview of the program, real-time flood forecasting etc. The project aims at developing real time flood forecasting systems utilising state of the art weather radar data.

International Hydrological Programme
The International Hydrological Programme, UNESCO's intergovernmental scientific co-operative programme in water resources, is a vehicle through which Member States can upgrade their knowledge of the water cycle and thereby increase their capacity to better manage and develop their water resources.

International River Network
