A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between ADPC and the Disaster Management Unit (DMU) of South Pacific Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) based in Fiji on 6 September 2001.

Among other things, the MOU emphasizes increased cooperation between the Training and Education Division (TED) of the ADPC and the DMU of SOPAC on developing course curriculum and conducting training for South Pacific.
