Sisira works as Director for the Preparedness for Response and Recovery Department.

Mr. Madurapperuma has over 17 years of experience in the domain of disaster risk management, climate change adaptation and sustainable development, especially in the thematic fields of disaster risk governance, climate change adaptation, capacity development, disaster preparedness, post-disaster damage and loss assessment, resilient recovery, knowledge management, and overall institutional development. He has proven ability to lead and provide technical assistance and mentoring support to National Disaster Management Offices (NDMO), sectoral agencies such as Ministries of Planning and Investment, Finance, Health, Agriculture, Environment, Transport, and Urban Development, the private sector, local NGOs and the civil society organizations in the Asia-Pacific and Africa regions.

As the Director of Preparedness and Resilient Recovery themes of ADPC, Mr. Madurapperuma has designed and implemented multi-donor funded DRM programs in Asia including Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Myanmar, Lao PDR, Pakistan, Nepal Philippines, and Pacific countries such as PNG, Palau and African countries such as Ethiopia and Nigeria. He also leads the Innovations and the Private Sector Engagement (PSE) portfolios of ADPC. Mr.Madurapperuma is an Environment Economist by profession and a doctoral research fellow on Climate Change, Disaster Risks and Development Nexus at the Global Disaster Resilience Center, School of Applied Sciences, University of Huddersfield, UK.
