International Day for Disaster Reduction and ASEAN Day for Disaster Management

12 Oct 2015

Bangkok, Thailand

Tuesday 13 October 2015 is the International Day for Disaster Reduction and the ASEAN Day for Disaster Management. This year, the day focuses on the utilization of traditional, indigenous and local knowledge to complement modern science in preparing communities for natural hazards.

To celebrate the day, Asian Disaster Preparedness Center partners with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of Thailand to organize a public event for raising awareness of disaster risk reduction in Thailand.

As part of the event that will take place in central Bangkok, ADPC will host a discussion forum on community-based disaster risk reduction with members of flood-prone communities in Thailand as speakers. The forum provides the participants with an opportunity to share experiences in combining traditional and scientific knowledge to prepare for natural hazards in their communities.

Details of the public event in Bangkok:

Time: Tuesday 13 October at 11.00–18.00
Venue: In front of Bangkok Art & Culture Centre, Bangkok, Thailand (link to map)
