Kazakhstan national workshop promotes future resilient development

The Kazakhstan Red Crescent Society and the Committee on Emergencies, a part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, conducted a three-day national workshop on resilient development with technical support from Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC).

The workshop was participated by experienced disaster risk reduction practitioners including Ms. Madhavi Ariyabandu, Sub-Regional Coordinator for Central Asia & South Caucasus at UNISDR, Mr. Yerkebek Argymbayev, President of the Kazakhstan Red Crescent Society, General Major Serik AuBakirov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Emergency, and Dr. Pyotr Plekhanov whose recent study conducted in cooperation with ADPC was launched during the workshop.

Presentation topics included how Kazakhstan’s future efforts should align with the recently launched Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the different preparedness strategies ministries can use to reduce disaster risk, entry points for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into development, and reflections on disaster response within the country.

Representatives from ADPC shared the organization’s practical experiences in ensuring resilient development in the region, and a selection of best practices that could be applied to Kazakhstan’s context.
