ADPC to host Twitter Chat discussing the 3rd UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction

10 Mar 2015

@ADPCnet, Twitter

In preparation for the 3rd UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction ADPC is hosting a twitter chat to give practitioners in the South and Southeast Asian region a chance to connect and voice their opinion on the future of disaster risk reduction.

The Twitter chat will take place Tuesday 10 March at 10.00 Bangkok time. ADPC will be acting as the moderator by tweeting questions and encouraging a lively discussion.

Questions will be thought invoking and structured to illicit powerful responses from those in the disaster risk reduction community. Plan on there being questions involving reusable energy, the evolution of media, and DRR in, or lacking in, the private sector. All questions will be related to the South and Southeast Asian region.

The question one (Q1) answer one (A1) format will be used with the accompanying hashtag #StepUpDRR to signify participation and prevent confusion.

Here's an example:

@ADPCnet Q1 Do you think climate change will be a relevant topic during the world conference? #StepUpDRR

@TwitterUser123 A1 Of course! It’s a huge topic right now and is on a lot of government’s agenda in S. and SE Asia. #StepUpDRR

@TwitterFan42 A1 Sure, we recently talked about how climate change will be a major factor in DRR in years to come. [link] #StepUpDRR

@ADPCnet Q2 If Sendai could only accomplish one thing, what would it be & why? #StepUpDRR

@TwitterUser123 A2 Inclusion of DRR in the private sector, we need to make progress here! Recent article: [link] #StepUpDRR

@TwitterFan42 A2 Discover a way to hold govs. accountable for hurting env.! Govs. pledge, but then no action. Study here: [link] #StepUpDRR

@IheartDRR11 A1 Climate change should cont. to be a relevant topic for decades to come. #StepUpDRR

*Note the use of Q1 and A1, Q2 and A2. This signifies “Question one” and “Answer one” etc. As the Twitter chat progresses, sometimes people take the time to really think about their responses and fit those answers into a tweet (a tweet can only be 140 characters max) and since they began writing the host has since asked another question. Using the Q1 and A1 system, people can take their time when answering questions and everyone will know which answer goes with what question.

The Twitter chat is scheduled to last for about an hour, but extra questions will be prepared in case participants want to keep the conversation going.

We hope to see all of you there for our lively discussion!
