Dhaka, Bangladesh

ADPC conducted a hospital assessment planning workshop at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in Dhaka, Bangladesh at the end of May.

The health professionals of each hospital were introduced to the World Health Organization’s Hospital Safety Index, and they will later use it as a tool to complete the hospital’s risk assessment. Both hospitals also drafted a hospital risk assessment action plan to define the way forward.

The workshops were implemented under the Strengthening Earthquake Resilience Bangladesh (SERB) project funded by United State Agency for International Development (USAID) Bangladesh. Under this project, ADPC will conduct similar workshops in a total of 12 hospitals in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong in Bangladesh.

The assessment will enable the hospitals to determine the risk by analyzing the hazards, vulnerabilities and the capacities. Finally, will help the hospitals to develop or revise their existing emergency response plans.
