Shane Wright appointed Executive Director of Asian Disaster Preparedness Center

Mr. Shane Wright, AFSM, has been appointed Executive Director of Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC). Previously, Mr. Wright served as Chief Officer and Executive Director for Emergency Management at Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board (MFB) in Australia.

Mr. Wright will lead ADPC’s work in disaster risk management in Asia-Pacific, the most disaster prone region in the world. Under his leadership, ADPC will continue to support disaster resilience in the region at all levels through disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.

"We recognize that there are competing interests across the region for community services. However, we will continue to focus on sustainability in building the capacity of countries as well as on the institutionalization of improved public safety," says the new Executive Director, Mr. Shane Wright, AFSM.

Mr. Wright brings with him extensive experience of emergency preparedness and mitigation. He is widely acknowledged for his achievements in the fields of disaster risk management, disaster response capacity building as well as in organizational development.

Mr. Wright has been awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) for his distinguished service as a member of Australian Fire Service.

Mr. Wright started his new position on 1 January 2014.
