On Tuesday 5 March 2013 at a Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony between Myanmar’s Relief and Resettlement Department and ADPC, Her Excellency Union Minister Dr. Daw Myat Myat Ohm Khin delivered a speech showing her appreciation to ADPC on behalf of the government of Myanmar.

“As you all are aware, our Disaster Management Bill is currently at the final process of Parliament and is going to be enacted.” Minister Dr. Daw Myat Myat Ohm Khin began, “Throughout the drawing of this bill, we would like to acknowledge ADPC’s sincere contribution. Without your intensive efforts, this bill wouldn’t have been processed so smoothly.”Aside from ADPC’s work on the Myanmar Disaster Management Bill, Minister Dr. Daw Myat Myat Ohm Khin also moved to thank ADPC for its previous efforts in Myanmar. Of particular note was ADPC’s support in the development of the Myanmar Action Plan on Disaster Risk Reduction (MAPDRR) that began in 2009. The plan was undertaken as an effort to help make Myanmar more disaster resilient. It identified projects that needed to be implemented to meet the commitments made for the Hyogo Framework for Action 2015.

“Additionally, I do appreciate ADPC’s great support on the development of MAPDRR that was approved by the Union Parliament last year. MAPDRR has become the model and roadmap for Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives in our country,” stated the minister.
