Action plan to accelerate 2015 disaster risk reduction goals in Mongolia

25 - 27 Mar 2013

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Senior Government representatives from 19 Asia-Pacific countries as well as key international observers will meet in Ulaanbaatar on March 25-27 for the 10th Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) on Disaster Management meeting. Officials will discuss and finalize a regional action plan for disaster risk reduction to be implemented over a period of 2-years.

The 2-year regional action plan is one of several agenda items addressed under the meeting’s overarching theme, “Integrated planning and action for disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and sustainable development at the local level”.
Co-hosted by Mongolia’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), with the support of the Government of Australia, through AusAid, the RCC meeting aims to accelerate the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) to achieve the goal of making communities resilient to disasters. In 2005, 168 States adopted the HFA during the World Conference on Disaster Reduction held in Kobe, Japan.

"Through the RCC, AusAID is interested in understanding the roles of partners, their challenges, achievements and find better ways to engage with ADPC. Improved programming and coordination will result in people in Asia being less vulnerable to disasters."
Disaster Prevention and Risk Reduction Section, AusAID commented.
