A national training course on safer coastal zone management was organized at the training center of Sub-Institute of Hydrometeorology and Environment of South Vietnam (SIHYMETE) in Ho Chi Minh City in early December.
Developed by Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), the 5-day training aimed at strengthening the capacity of national, sub-national and local institutions in addressing the issues related to current and potential threats posed by natural disasters and climate change. The sixteen participants of the training represented different institutions from Ca Mau, Can Tho, and Ho Chi Minh City.
The keynote speech of the inaugural session of the training was given by Hon. Dr. Dao Xuan Hoc, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam. As resource speakers, the training was facilitated by Deputy Director General Dr. Bao Thanh from SIHYMETE and Deputy Executive Director N.M.S.I. Arambepola from ADPC. Lectures were delivered by Dr. Utpal Sharma from Ahmedabad University and Dr. Nguyen Minh Son from Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
The training course has been developed as part of ADPC’s Vietnam Coastal Community Resilience Project (CCR project). Financial support for the training was provided by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and project assistance by the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment (IMHEN) of Vietnam.
