Early Warning and Seasonal Outlook Forum was held on 4 October 2013 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Organized jointly by Vietnam’s National Hydro-Meteorological Service (NHMS) and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), the forum discussed the seasonal outlook for the upcoming typhoon season.
ADPC supports National Hydro-Meteorological Service in a project for enhancing its technical and human capacity to meet future challenges. Technical support for the project is provided also by Norwegian Meteorological Institute (met.no) and financial support by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In his inauguration speech, Deputy Director General Mr. Nguyen Van Tue from NHMS appreciated the efforts made in creating a platform for stakeholders to get together to discuss the seasonal outlook prior to the typhoon season.
“We are hoping to conduct a similar type of forum prior to each major rainy season”, Mr. Van Tue said.
The forum was participated by sector specific stakeholders representing agriculture, forestry, water resource management, and disaster management as well as by the officials of Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment (IMHEN).
