Training of Trainers for Myanmar government officials

10 Aug 2013

Nai Pyi Taw, Myanmar

A training of trainers (ToT) for the National Training on Mainstreaming Disaster and Climate Risk Management into Development Planning in Myanmar was held on 30 September - 3 October 2013 in Nai Pyi Taw, the capital of Myanmar. The training gathered 30 officials from several national Departments for Relief and Resettlement, Planning, Meteorology, Social Welfare, as well as City Development Committees for the country’s three largest urban areas: Yangon, Nai Pyi Taw and Mandalay.

Over the four days, participants of the training – who will deliver the same training to other government officers over upcoming years – were given an opportunity to practice the delivery of training sessions, brush up on their technical understanding of the course content, and discuss and receive feedback on aspects of public speaking and electronic presentations.

The training content was developed jointly by Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and the national agencies through a series of national consultations and workshops. The Relief and Resettlement Department took the lead and will maintain the training over upcoming years. The training content includes PowerPoint presentations, participants manual and a facilitator’s guide, in both English and Myanmar language.

The next training will take place in early January, and will be entirely delivered by the participants of last week’s training, with ongoing support from ADPC.
