Mainstreaming disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in Vietnam

29 Aug 2013

Hanoi, Vietnam

Aiming to include disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation into the Socio-economic Development Plan of Vietnam at commune level, Vietnam’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) work on developing a training course and a guideline on the subject.

A workshop on the development of the course, Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation into Socio-economic Development Planning and Implementation, was held on 29 August 2013 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Participated by line ministries and development partners, the workshop focused on defining the outline and approach of the course.

Mainstreaming disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation into development has been identified as one of the priority areas in the recently approved disaster management law of Vietnam. Asian Disaster Preparedness Center supports Vietnam’s Disaster Management Center through capacity building and guidance. The workshop was jointly organized by the two organizations, with support from Australian Government Overseas Aid Program (AusAID).
