GIDM and ADPC join hands for Capacity Building on Management of Disasters

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management (GIDM) and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) Bangkok, Thailand, on March 21st, 2018 by Shri. P.K. Taneja, Director General, GIDM, and Mr. Hans Guttman, Executive Director, ADPC.

Under the MoU, both the institutions have agreed to jointly work for improving training services through development and sharing of Disaster Risk Reduction related technical expertise, joint research, documentation and knowledge exchange.

Sharing his vision for the collaboration Mr. Taneja said, “Climate change is one of the major factors which has increased the number and frequency of disasters. Therefore, there is a need to develop practically relevant knowledge base, and effective outreach mechanism for dissemination. This MoU will not only help us in enhancing the training capacities but also help in reducing of disaster losses through effective trainings.”

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Hans Guttman, Executive Director, ADPC, expressed hope that the MoU will help the two institutions to complement each other's strengths in delivering better, more effective training courses on DRR and climate resilience for various stakeholders. “ADPC looks forward to working with GIDM to undertake joint research and training on new and emerging themes for enhancing community resilience," he stated. The MoU will also enable the two institutions to jointly reach out to additional stakeholders such as the private sector who can play a strong role in societal resilience to disasters and climate change.
