Training of Trainers on Community-based Disaster Risk Management in Beihai, Guangxi Autonomous Region, P.R. China

Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and its partners conducted a four-day training course on Training of Trainers: Community-based Disaster Risk Management in Beihai, Guangxi Autonomous Region, P.R. China from 21-24 March 2017.

Mr. Hu Junfeng, Division Director of the Department of Disaster Relief under the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China (MCA), Mr. Zhu Yong, Division Director of Disaster Relief of Guangxi Autonomous Regional Department of Civil Affairs, and Mr. Liao Da, Deputy Director of Disaster Relief of Beihai Civil Affairs opened the training course.

The course was attended by 29 civil affairs officials from 14 cities of Guangxi, local community leaders, NGOs’ staff, a vice principal of a local primary school, and a vice head of a local hospital. Mr. Zhu Yong chaired the opening ceremony.

Dr. LingLing Jiang, Senior Program Manager and China Focal Point, at ADPC, together with Mr. Reynaldo A. Calabdan conducted the course.

Organized with funding support from the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the nine-unit course focused on training the trainers for conducting CBDRM courses in the region. The CBDRM course was conducted for 30 participants in September 2016 in Qiaogang Township, Beihai by ADPC. The CBDRM course and ToT for CBDRM course are sister courses, and it’s the first time for these two courses to be conducted in Guangxi.

Participants indicated that the ToT for CBDRM course is very helpful and relevant not only for the delivery of the CBDRM course, but also for conducting other training courses. Some of the participants said that they can combine what they have learned from this course and apply it to their future training courses. The ToT provided them with the capacity to increase the quality and standard of their future training courses.

Some participants said that the training design and session contents are advanced, systematic, comprehensive, integrated, rich with variety, and will be very useful in developing and conducting a high-quality training course. The training course will make them better trainers as well as help them improve their professional work.
