ADPC to attend the Disaster Preparedness Forum in Bangkok

28 Mar 2016

Bangkok, Thailand

Representatives from the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center will attend the Disaster Preparedness Forum in Bangkok on 28 March 2017 hosted by CSR Asia. The forum is open to the public and will address the need for disaster resilient settlements in Asia and the private sector’s role as a key stakeholder in disaster risk reduction.

The conference is for companies interested in raising their disaster-related corporate social responsibility and community programs to a more strategic, impactful level and aligning them to the Sustainable Development Goals; and organizations seeking more effective cross-sector collaborations for community disaster preparedness.

The forum will bring together 150 leaders from government, business and civil society to discuss policy and regulatory frameworks, finance and investment incentives, as well as resilient building design and construction.

The forum will also explore the private sector’s engagement in disaster risk reduction through corporate social responsibility. By businesses engaging in these types of activities in unison with their community the effects of natural hazards can be lessened and resilience built.

ADPC invites interested parties to join the event. For more details please visit the event website.

ADPC’s role in facilitating private sector engagement in disaster risk reduction in Thailand

ADPC is committed to strategizing business continuity planning and corporate social responsibility in the region. In Thailand, ADPC and partners supported Bangkadi Industrial Park area in Pathum Thani province, which is situated in a flood prone location, in developing area-wide strategies to tackle disaster risks. During the intervention, iPrepare Business, ADPC’s dedicated unit working to engage the private sector in disaster risk reduction facilitated collaboration and partnerships between neighboring businesses, local authorities, technical agencies and communities through a series of workshops, meetings and consultations. ADPC published a document outlining the intervention in detail.

These types of activities promote better cohesion between the private sector and communities as outlined in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk reduction (SFDRR). The framework calls for businesses to have a greater stake in disaster risk reduction with the goal of improving resilience towards natural hazards.
