ADPC Builds capacity on public health issues in Bangladesh

Asian Disaster Preparedness Center conducted the 15th basic training on Hospital Preparedness in emergencies to enhance the capacity of Public Health professionals in Bangladesh. The initiative is part of USAID’s Strengthening Earthquake Resilience in Bangladesh (SERB) Activity.

The training targeted public health staff to improve their disaster management skills, specifically how to respond to victims of an earthquake and manage other mass casualty incidents. The training, as in all SERB activities, engaged female health professionals to establish a gender sensitive response environment.

A total of 26 professionals - 15 females and 11 males - from different hospital and institutions attended the five-day training.

Sajedul Hasan, SERB Chief of Party, and ADPC Director, emphasized the importance of hospital based preparation as well as the importance of Earthquake preparedness in all sector of response when he addressed the training group.

Prof. Dr. Emdadul Haque, Acting Director & Head, Department of Nutrition and Bio-Chemistry, National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM), was also present at the training. During his speech he acknowledged the contribution of ADPC in building resilient cities and shared his expectation to ADPC for continuing support to enhance capacity of health professional.
