The overall goal of the Geospatial Information Department of ADPC is to increase uses of geospatial technology, data, and information by countries in Asia for supporting decision making related to disaster risk management and climate resilience. The department supports all thematic areas of focus of ADPC to achieve their goals, mainly through:

- Increased accessibility and technical capacity to develop, maintain, and use geospatial information including disaster and climate risk maps, forecasted and real-time disaster data for early warning, and damage data for post-disaster assessment and recovery planning,

- Increased awareness by decision makers on applications of geospatial information in disaster risk management and climate resilience decision making, and

- Geospatial solutions, such as maps, tools, models, and data, customized to the demands of stakeholders

Addressing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction Priority 1: Understanding Risk, ADPC has been at the forefront in the Asia and Pacific region in supporting countries conduct disaster risk assessment and use the risk information for guiding risk reduction activities. Some flagship programs include the multi-hazard risk assessment and mapping for Bangladesh, national and provincial risk profiles of Lao PDR, national risk assessment and mapping for Cambodia, detailed seismic hazard and risk assessment for cities in Bangladesh, and provincial risk assessment in Thailand. ADPC continues to promote understanding of the disaster risk while bringing innovation such as satellite technology, crowd mapping technology, and data management to further enhance risk assessment experience and utilization in Asia and the Pacific.

The Geospatial Information Department of ADPC is seeking qualified candidates to fill its Risk Assessment Specialist position. We are expecting candidates who have backgrounds in structural/civil engineering or one of the technical fields required for hazard assessment such as hydrology (e.g., for flood hazard assessment), geology, and seismology. More importantly candidates who can demonstrate professional experience in applying those scientific areas in conducting risk assessments at any geographic levels will be considered favorably.

The Risk Assessment Specialist will provide technical leadership as well as subjects-matter-expert inputs to risk assessment projects assigned to the Geospatial Information Department. ADPC, together with its consortium partners, is implementing a project "SERVIR-Mekong," a joint initiative of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). SERVIR-Mekong brings NASA's scientific and technical know-how to help developing countries use information provided by Earth observing satellites and geospatial technologies to sustainably prepare for and respond to disasters, manage natural resources, and improve food security in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The Geospatial Information Department of ADPC is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill the Capacity Development Lead position. Further details are provided in subsequent sections.

The Capacity Development Lead is the one of the key positions in the SERVIR-Mekong hub. S/he will take a leadership role in the development and delivery of all capacity development activities such as training, hands-on co-development engagement, and online learning. S/he will maintain an active network of academic institutions in the Lower Mekong region, but also will seek to establish contacts with universities and research institutes globally. S/he will manage internship programs already established with universities such as the University of Twente and Chulalongkorn University. The SERVIR-Mekong Capacity Development Lead will also work closely with the counterparts from the other SERVIR hubs, NASA, and USAID and contribute to the global SERVIR capacity development strategies and plans. This position is located in Bangkok, Thailand, but will require frequent travels to countries in the Lower Mekong region.

ADPC has a need for support in the implementation of programs in Nepal. The main program in need of support is a 5-year program on Building resilience to inclusive and climate-adaptive disaster risk reduction in Asia-Pacific (BRDR Program). The program will take stock of, build upon and enhance current and existing knowledge, experience and good practice for DRR. The program will explore entry points, develop and test effective frameworks and draw upon the existing bright spots for upscaling and integration of gender equality and social aspects into DRR and climate change adaptation (CCA). The program will also seek to enhance regional cooperation through various capacity strengthening initiatives embedded in the Regional Consultative Committee on Disaster Management (RCC) mechanism. The Program Coordinator will assist in implementation of the BRDR Program in Nepal. Other programs in Nepal include the Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP) and possibly other upcoming initiative. The Program Coordinator is expected to provide inputs into these programs as well. The approximate share division of time between programs is 80% on BRDR and 20% on other programs (this may change over time).
