The
Urban Research Institute (URI) was established in 1983 under Ministry
of Communication, Transport, Post and Construction. There are five
divisions, namely Town Planning, Civil Engineering, Cooperation and
Relation, Research and Monitoring, Personal and Administration. The
institute is mandated to prepare land use plans and to conduct training
courses at national level.
The institute
has some basic GIS facilities but no skilled staff to use it and impart
training.
