Director and Team Leader Urban Disaster Risk Management (UDRM) and Program Manager, Program for Hydro-meteorological Disaster Mitigation in Secondary Cities in Asia (PROMISE)

Arambe joined ADPC in February 2000 and is currently working as the Director and Team Leader, Urban Disaster Risk management (UDRM) team and Program Manager, Program for Hydro-meteorological Disaster Mitigation in Secondary Cities in Asia (PROMISE). As the Director and team leader UDRM he has been responsible for overview and management of several projects such as Asian Urban Disaster Management Program (AUDMP), Asian Program for Regional Capacity Enhancement for Landslide Impact Mitigation (RECLAIM) and Capacity Building in Asia Using Information Technology Applications (CASITA). Since 2000 he has been responsible for managing the country demonstration projects in Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia and the Philippines, as the Program Manager of AUDMP. Prior to joining ADPC as a full-time staff, Arambe functioned as the in-country Project Manager of Sri Lanka Urban Multi-Hazard Mitigation Project under AUDMP.

His extensive knowledge in disaster management and geotechnical engineering, particularly with relation to landslides studies and flood mitigation, as well as his hands-on experience at the project management level, contributes to the effective management of UDRM.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Exploration of Mineral Deposits, a diploma in Engineering geology and is registered as a charted Engineer. He is a member of number of professional bodies including the Institution of Mining & Metallurgy (U.K), the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka, the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and the Geotechnical Society of Sri Lanka.

 

 

 
    RAJESH SHARMA
Project Manager, UDRM

Rajesh has been responsible for managing various projects under the UDRM team such as the AUDMP, Asian Program for Regional Capacity Enhancement for Landslide Impact Mitigation (RECLAIM) and Capacity Building in Asia Using Information Technology Applications (CASITA). Under AUDMP he managed country projects in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Sri Lanka and Thailand. He joined ADPC in July 1999 as Information & Networking Manager of Asian Urban Disaster Mitigation Program (AUDMP) and was responsible for developing and implementing the information & networking component of AUDMP.

Rajesh is also the original creator of ADPC's first website in 1997. He brings to ADPC expertise in networking, with a wealth of experience in project management, information management, event management, web development, database, statistical, and various Internet applications. Before returning to ADPC in 1999, he served as National Program Coordinator of UNDP's Sustainable Development Networking Programme (link to http://sdnp.delhi.nic.in) in India and established the Secretariat at Ministry of Environment & Forests in New Delhi.

In the past, he has served as an environmental consultant to the National Institute of Urban Affairs in New Delhi, where he compiled an urban environmental atlas for Delhi, Bombay, Ahmedabad and Vadodara. He has also consulted for USAID-India on a democracy project for Nepal, during which he advised on the preparation of a DDC/VDC working atlas for select municipalities. An architect from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Rajesh holds a Master of Science degree in Urban Environmental Management from the Asian Institute of Technology, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Environmental Planning from the School of Planning in Ahmedabad, India..

 

 

 
 

 

  K. IFTEKHAR AHMED, PhD
Project Manager, Program for Hydro-meteorological Disaster Mitigtion in Secondary Cities in Asia (PROMISE)

Iftekhar joined ADPC in 2006 and is responsible for managing the PROMISE (Program for Hydro-meteorological Disaster Mitigation in Secondary Cities in Asia) country projects in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. He also assists in ADPC’s activities related to community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM).

Iftekhar had been teaching at the Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) since 1992. Additionally, he has worked extensively as a consultant for various building and disaster related projects, including for ADPC. Before joining ADPC, he worked as a consultant for UNDP in Bangladesh on family shelter reconstruction as part of a large post-flood recovery program. He also designed the curriculum and worked as coordinator of the Postgraduate Programs in Disaster Management at BRAC University, Bangladesh. Iftekhar has worked in several other countries including Germany, India, UK and USA.

He completed his doctorate from Oxford Brookes University, UK and Master of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. He graduated in architecture from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), India. He is a member of the Institute of Architects, Bangladesh and has several publications and books to his credit.

 

 

   
    Gabrielle Iglesias
Information and Networking Coordinator, UDRM

Gaby joined ADPC in March 2006 and is currently working as the Information and Networking Coordinator, Urban Disaster Risk management (UDRM) team. She is actively involved in the implementation of the Program for Hydro-meteorological Disaster Mitigation in Secondary Cities in Asia (PROMISE). Before joining ADPC, Gaby was for many years an Assistant Professor at the National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG), University of the Philipipines. While teaching she helped develop and was the lead person for pioneering Spatial Information Management specialization within the Masters in Public Administration curriculum. Her research experience includes: (1) leading the e-government assessment study of four Philippine cities under the Governance study of the Philippine-APEC Study Center Network; (2) developing an approach to adopting geoinformation and GIS under the project Strengthening Local Authorities in Risk Management (SLARIM) with ITC (2004). Gaby has served as a consultant in the area of GIS Design. Her clients included the Municipal Government of Candelaria, Amellar Solutions, the Philippine National Police, the Philippine Army, and Polistrat International. She was also the consultant for e-government to the League of Cities of the Philippines Liaison Officers Association. She earned the following degrees: (1) a Masters with distinction in Geoinformation Management and Earth Observations from the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), specializing in Urban Land Administration (2000); (2) a Masters in Public Administration from UP-NCPAG (1995), specializing in public policy analysis; and (3) a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology cum laude from the University of the Philippines (1991).

 

 

 
 

 

  MUHIBUDDIN BIN USAMAH
Program Coordinator, UDRM

Muhibuddin first joined ADPC in January 2006 as a Project Coordinator in the PROMISE Project (Program for Hydro Meteorological Disaster Mitigation in Secondary Cities in Asia) under Urban Disaster Risk Management Team. He got his Master of Science Degree in Earth Resources and Environmental Geosciences from the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) Enschede, the Netherlands. Prior to joining ADPC, he was a Lecturer at the Department of Geology of Hasanuddin University in Indonesia, involving in teaching and project management in campus and also a GIS consultant to an international NGO in Indonesia. In addition, he was involved in the SLARIM Project, Strengthening Local Authorities in Risk Management, a research project of ITC The Netherlands under flood hazard and risk assessment research system that focuses on the development of the science, models and techniques to develop a quantitative approach to the analysis and assessment of flood risk.

 

 

   

 

CLARENCE M. CARLOS
Training Coordinator and Project Coordinator, UDRM

Clarence joined ADPC in 1998, she is currently responsible for coordinating and organizing trainings and workshops for the UDRM Team. Prior to that, she held a position for the Asian Urban Disaster Mitigation Program (AUDMP) of ADPC as a Program Associate and I & N Coordinator. She obtained a degree in Human Ecology major in Human Settlements Planning from the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB).

 

 

 
    SUREE SUNGCHAROEN
Program Administrative Coordinator, UDRM

Suree has joined UDRM team in August 2003. She is responsible for assisting the Team Leader and Program Manager in organizing and coordinating all related program activities for AUDMP project and UDRM team. Prior to joining AUDMP, she has worked as the Administrative Coordinator in Finance, Administration and Human Resources of ADPC and she was involved in the overall central administration of ADPC. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Sripatum University, Thailand and a Bachelor’s degree in General Management from Rajabhat Institute Suan Sunandha, Thailand, She also completed additional training in Intensive Secretarial Administration from St. Teresa International School of Business Administration and Management, Thailand.
