15:00 – 16:00 Livelihoods Adaptation to Climate Change: Adaptive Learning Experiences of Managing Climatic Risks in Agriculture Sector
Present
by Mr. Atiq Kainan Ahmed, Social Scientist, ADPC

The impact of increasing climatic variability and change has been a concern all over the world but more pronounced in some of the Asian countries. Livelihoods systems of the people in these Asian countries where people’s life and livelihoods are chronically exposed and vulnerable to increased intensity and frequency of natural hazards remained as an issue to manage. Agriculture is often indicated as the largest sector which is anticipated to be impacted deeply. Increasing climate variability and climate change are expected to aggravate vulnerabilities further by causing more frequent and intense floods, droughts, sea level rise, increasing temperatures etc. Within this context, ADPC with various partners are leading a process called "Livelihood adaptation to Climate Change (LACC)” and trying to manage risks posed to peoples livelihoods. This presentation will talk about this “cutting edge” LACC process focusing the recent experiences of ADPC in various parts of Bangladesh and will discuss the unique methodological and institutional development issues to manage the climatic extremes. The presentation will discuss how livelihoods based adaptation system can be developed using livelihoods system specific solutions and makes use of different cutting edge tools of CFA, DRM, and “End-to-End” early warning systems in an adaptive learning process.
