Training Unit Profile:
The focus of ADPC's Training unit under the Strategic Disaster Risk Management team is to help strengthen the capacity of countries, organizations, communities and individuals to reduce the impact of disasters through enhancing their knowledge and skills to promote and adopt disaster reduction practices as an integral part of the development process at community, national, sub-regional and regional levels.

The services of ADPC's Training unit under the Strategic Disaster Risk Management team include, training needs assessment, design training curriculum, conduct training courses and evaluation and organizing study tours to meet the special needs of different audiences. Regular courses are conducted by ADPC- both at ADPC in Bangkok and in-country- on a range of topics such as the fundamentals of disaster management, urban disaster mitigation, seismic and cyclones hazards mitigation, flood hazard mitigation, technological hazards mitigation, crisis management, complex emergencies management, and community based approaches to disaster management

Main Purpose for the Job:

  • To assist the Training Manager and Director in the logistics of managing nominated ADPC training courses in Bangkok and other locations throughout the Asian region.
  • To assist in packaging training materials in various media and forms.
  • To carry out coordination within the TE division and with other divisions and teams; and
  • Experience of working with Indian government officials will be an advantage· To provide administrative support to the TE division and the Director in conjunction with the Administrative Assistant.

Selection Criteria :

  • University degree in a disaster-related field.
  • Background in disaster management, international development.
  • At least three years of relevant experience, at least one year of which must be in the area of training programs support.
  • Demonstrated experience in training materials development
  • Skills in conceptual & strategic planning for development programs - preferably related to disaster management and mitigation.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in administrative coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience with course planning and management and information analysis skills and in project financial administration
  • Competent in Microsoft office, particularly in MS Word and MS Excel, and in a Desktop Publishing program.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness and availability to travel periodically under sometimes adverse conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills; ability to work with a team in a multi-cultural environment; international work experience in Asia is desirable.
  • Strong desire to learn and undertake new challenges; must be a creative problem-solver; must have self-confidence; a willingness to work hard; a good sense of humor and fun but serious about the quality and excellence of work.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are Asian nationals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and write proposals as directed
  • Review and correct proposals, reports, etc as directed
  • Conduct research and update selected training handouts.
  • Develop case studies for selected training sessions
  • Identify, select, and finalize course materials.
  • Assist in the development of learners' reference materials, workbook and CD ROM.
  • Communicate with resource persons and institutions, as directed
  • Assist the Training Manager in coordinating all aspects of Training activities.
  • Develop and maintain a system to organize, monitor and manage the daily, weekly, monthly and annual schedule of the Training Manger and Training program and activities
  • Provide administrative support to Training Managers and Director in planning and implementing training programs and projects.
  • In conjunction with the Training and Education Administrative Assistant collect and file training resource materials. Develop and maintain record-keeping and retrieval system of reports and training materials Assist in the preparation and packaging of the monthly and quarterly reports on training activities in ADPC record and maintain minutes of meeting of the TE division.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Training Manager and Training Director.
