Season Outlook As of 2004
Central
Pacific Hurricane Season begins (1 June - 30 November), the Pacific
Development Center offers important hurricane background information,
preparedness suggestions, and useful resources.

Quaternary Fault Database online
Released
by the United States Geological Survey, a new website summarizes
geological, geomorphic, and geographic information on about 2,000
quaternary faults and fold-related folds that are believed to be
sources of earthquakes in the United States. The database will also
identify faults present in a certain state and the history of the
occurrence of earthquake.

Report of the Workshop on Designing Educational Opportunities for
the Hazards Manager of the 21st Century
Held
in October 2003, the workshop brought together researchers and practitioners
from a range of hazard-related disciplines to help design a curriculum
for practitioners that is both comprehensive and well-grounded in
hazard and disaster theory. Outcomes include include identification
of emerging trends and issues in emergency management, among others.

Learning Lessons from Disaster Recovery: The Case of Honduras
This report,
published by the Natural Hazards Center, summarizes the findings
of a Honduras country case study, which is part of a ProVention
Consortium initiative aimed at learning lessons from recovery efforts
following major natural disasters.

GeoMAC: an online fire database Aiming at keeping track of wildland
fire status across the country
The
USGS launched and operated this internet-based mapping tool that
allows fire personnel and the public to access on-line maps of multi-acre
blazes.

Asia-Pacific Natural Hazards and Vulnerabilities Atlas
Produced
by the Pacific Disaster Center, this Hazards Atlas is an interactive,
geospatial mapping tool for natural hazards and vulnerabilities
information within the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions.

Asia Pacific Natural Hazards Information Network (APNHIN)
Hosted
by the Pacific Disaster Center, APNHIN directly supports disaster
and resource managers, planners, governments, and non-governmental
organizations with a suite of applications and information services
designed to search for, evaluate, and access high-quality geospatial
data for natural hazard applications. APNHIN is customized to specifically
provide natural hazards information for the Asia Pacific region.
