Planning and Financial Protection to Survive Disasters
Published by
the Inter-American Development Bank, this publication distinguishes
between risk management-which calls for prior planning and investments
to reduce vulnerability-and emergency response, which involves after-the-fact
expenditures. This technical paper deals with two important areas:
identifying and reducing risk by integrating prevention and mitigation
into development plans and financial protection of costly investments.

Wildfires: Beware and Prepare - Science Teacher Kit
Developed
by the Firewise Communities and Lifetime Learning Systems, this
toolkit will help teachers explain wildfire hazards to students
and educate them about how to protect themselves, their families,
their homes, and their communities.Students will learn how wildfires
start, how they can be prevented, what makes a home or community
susceptible to wildfires, and safety features that can be implemented
at home or in the community to help reduce the risk and damage of
wildfires.

CSD Partnerships online database
The
Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) has launched a new on-line
database of CSD-registered partnerships for sustainable development.
The database aims toincrease the sharing of experience and knowledge
required to implement sustainable development practices, as well
as assist individual partnership initiatives to attract new partners
and donors. The database can be searched by geographic scope or
theme.
