Cities on Volcanoes 3, 14 - 18 July 2003, Hilo, Hawaii

Cities on Volcanoes 3 provides a forum to discuss the impacts of volcanic activity on society. It is multidisciplinary in focus with themes and sessions planned to bring together workers who share common interests but who historically have had only limited interactions with each other. The meeting aims to develop collaborative work in emergency management, urban and rural planning, education, volcanology, sociology and psychology.

Fifth Course on Flood Risk Management (FRM-5), 15 - 26 September 2003, Beijing, China

FRM-5 provides a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to flood risk management. The course aims to provide a common understanding of flood risk management applied across all sectors and among all levels of current and potential participants in the flood risk reduction process.

FRM-5 is organized by ADPC and the Research Center on Flood and Drought Disaster Reduction (CDR) of the Ministry of Water Resources in China. The Course fee is USD2,000. All participants will stay at the China Hall of Science and Technology. The daily room rate is US$ 32.00 for single occupancy and US$ 17.50 per person for double occupancy.

Thirteenth World Conference on Earthquake Engineering, 1-6 August 2004, Vancouver, Canada

The conference aims to enable dialogue among the leading researchers and practitioners from a broad range of disciplines working to reduce the devastating effects of earthquakes on our society and environment.

The last date for submitting abstracts to the conference is 31 May 2003. Volunteers to review the abstracts during June, July, August 2003 are also being sought by the organizers.
