Safer
Cities Project
The
Consortium of Organizations for Strong-Motion Observation Systems
(COSMOS)
and the World Seismic Safety Initiative (WSSI) launched the SAFER
Cities Project
which aim to redistribute Strong-motion Accelerographs For Earthquake loss
Reduction (SAFER) in cities with high seismic risk. The project is an
initiative to create awareness, to educate, and to accelerate earthquake hazard
mitigation efforts in urbanized high seismic risk regions of the world
with few or no strong-motion instruments.
Non-profit
organizations and agencies that have little or no means of recording
the next damaging earthquake in urbanized areas of the world are
encouraged to apply to receive instrumentation under the SAFER Cities
Project. Application forms are available from <http://www.cosmos-eq.org>
(click on the heading "Projects")
