This
informative website used for emergency operations and rehabilitation
of the recently flooded area provides up-to-date situation summary
by district and divisional secretariat. In addition, it give figures
on the number of relocated families, the number of people in welfare
camps, the health and education situation, the assistance received
by the Government of Sri Lanka, daily updates from UN agencies,
NGOs and donors, contact information, maps, photos and the disaster
history.

Gender
and Disaster Network

Gender
and Disaster Network is an educational project initiated by women
and men interested in gender relations in disaster contexts. It
provides an international forum for discussion and has links to
topical bibliographies and reports on applied projects or research
in progress, book reviews, current information about relevant conferences
and other events, and contact information of network members.

Final
Report on the First International Conference on Climate Change and
Tourism, 9 - 11 April 2003, Djerba, Tunisia now online

The
final report available in HTML and PDF presents the main conclusions
and agenda for action derived from the presentations and debates
of the Conference. The Conference contained five working sessions
namely: (i) tourism and climate change; (ii) tourism and water resources;
(iii) tourism in small islands and coastal zones; (iv) tourism in
mountainous regions; and (v) policy issues and mitigation of the
effects of climate change. One of the major outputs of the conference
is the Djerba Declaration on Tourism and Climate Change.

id21 online collection contains hundreds of policy-relevant research
digests on critical global development issues, drawn from leading

id21 also maintains an electronic newsletter that provides regular
updates of the latest additions to the online collection. A search

issues and City Management – Urbanicity

Urbanicity
information targets city managers, local level policymakers, urban
planners and directors of urban service and infrastructure provision.
The objectives are to advance their knowledge and understanding
of urban issues and to present the tools they need to plan, manage
and govern their cities.
The
website provides useful resources, databases and links, and updated
information on conferences and courses on a number of sectors including
disasters. Other sectors include e-government, gender, housing,
planning, and water.
Urbanicity
is a partnership initiative with UN Habitat Best Practices and Local
Leadership, and works in cooperation with Development Gateway, a
World Bank initiative.
