2003 United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Reduction

Nominations are now being received for the 2003 United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Reduction. This award was established in 1986 by founding Chairman of the Nippon Foundation, Mr. Ryoichi Sasakawa, in recognition of innovative efforts and outstanding initiatives in the field of disaster reduction. The total approximate value of the award is USD50,000 shared between the Laureate and the recipients of Certificates of Distinction andMerit.

The Inter-Agency Secretariat of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction calls upon former Sasakawa laureates, representatives of institutions specializing in disaster reduction, UN Resident Coordinators, UN agencies and representatives from the diplomatic community to submit nominations by 15 August 2003.
