UNESCAP-ADPC
AWARD FOR EXCELLENT WRITING ON DISASTER REDUCTION IN ASIA AND THE
PACIFIC
During
the celebration of 2003 World Disaster Reduction day on 8 October,
the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), in collaboration
with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific
(UNESCAP), announced the launching of an award for "Excellent
Writing on Disaster Reduction in Asia and the Pacific". The
objective of this award scheme is to recognize outstanding writing
in the mass media on Disaster Reduction in Asia and the Pacific;
thus promoting increased coverage of these issues in the mainstream
press.
The award will go to the journalist and her/his published story,
that best captures the good practice, innovation and hard work of
organizations and communities aimed at reducing disaster risks through
preparedness, mitigation of impact and prevention activities. A
separate award would be given to the publication carrying the award
winning article.
Following different types of award will be given to the winners:

Certificates of distinction (Up to five, not more than one per
country)

Certificate of merit (to be awarded on discretion of panel.)

Special category certificates for individual nominees.
